The statement reads, “Ukraine resolutely supports the firm position of the United States which prevents Russia from dividing Europe geopolitically and undermining the energy security of Ukraine and Europe. We welcome further measures by the United States to hault the Russia-controlled project “Nord Stream-2” which could seriously endanger European solidarity if completed”.

The Foreign Office of Ukraine stressed that Ukraine as a reliable transit partner counts on close cooperation with the United States and the European Union in strengthening the energy security of the region.

Earlier that day, U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo announced the administration’s readiness to launch the sanctions against the companies-investors that are involved in the construction of the Russian energy project “Nord Stream-2”.

In his words, the State Department will include the “Nord Stream-2” and the second line of the Turkish Stream into the list of sanctions authorized by the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). “This action puts investments or other activities that are related to these Russian energy export pipelines at risk of U.S. sanctions,” Pompeo told reporters at a State Department news conference. “It’s a clear warning to companies. Aiding and abetting Russia’s malign influence projects will not be tolerated. Get out now or risk the consequences,” the State Secretary warned.

Pompeo took aim at the pipeline projects, calling them “the Kremlin’s key tools to exploit and expand European dependence on Russian energy supplies” that “ultimately undermine transatlantic security.”

He noted that the United States “is always ready to help our European friends meet their energy needs.”

The American top-ranking official mentioned the incident that had happened to a Ukrainian paramedic in Donbas who came under firing by pro-Russian mercenaries and was killed on July 13. On behalf of the American people, Pompeo expressed his deep sympathies on the death of the Ukrainian medical officer about which the Holos Ukrainy informed in its previous issue.

Mike Pompeo condemned the aggression of the Russian Federation and noted that American people stand side by side with the people of Ukraine in their battle against “brutal aggression conducted under the guidance of Russian forces in Donbas”.

The Government of Great Britain also expressed regret over human losses in eastern Ukraine including the killing of the Ukrainian medic. The official London called for Russia to stop the armed conflict in Donbas.

The Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine said in its statement, “The escalation of violence in Donbas, including the killing of Ukrainian medical officer, is a breach of Minsk agreements and Normandy Summit commitments and international humanitarian law. Imperative that all parties respect ceasefire and fully implement their commitments under the Minsk agreements”.

In addition, Nabila Massrali, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy called on Russia to take responsibility for the murder in a comment to Radio Liberty.
