A relevant resolution was carried on January 25 by the overwhelming majority of votes. The resolution calls Ukrainian lawmakers to approve the address and recognize that Russia’s demands on international partners to hamper the realization of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations violate the relevant provisions of the Constitution and laws of Ukraine as well as the fundamental principles and norms of international law and the UN Charter.

In their address, the Ukrainian lawmakers have appealed to the United Nations, the European Parliament, foreign governments and parliaments as well as parliamentary assemblies of international institutions and called on them to condemn actions of the Russian Federation directed against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as the actions that go contrary to generally accepted principles and norms of international law.

Also, the Ukrainian Parliament has called on the international community to resolutely condemn the position of Russia aimed at blocking the progress of international political and diplomatic efforts to settle the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict; to use all possible diplomatic instruments to encourage the de-escalation of the situation, the withdrawal of Russian troops from borders with Ukraine; and to force the Russian Federation to refuse completely from its aggressive intentions to divide Europe into the zones of influence.

Besides, the Verkhovna Rada has called not to let Russia blackmail and threaten with a large-scale invasion in Ukraine, the threats which are intended to receive from NATO the guarantees of its non-expansion eastward, to prevent Ukraine from the realization of its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations and, finally, to revise the fundamental principles of European security.

The Ukrainian lawmakers have called to promote the strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities and the upgrading of its armed forces in compliance with NATO standards; to support Ukraine’s efforts directed at encouraging international community to recognize the country’s European prospects and specify the timeframes and modalities of the further integration of Ukraine with NATO; to employ all possible international political and diplomatic mechanisms to prevent Russia from further escalation of its aggressive actions and the build-up of its military force on  borders with Ukraine.

Besides, the Ukrainian parliamentarians have called to continue sanctions’ pressure on the state-invader until the complete cease of its military aggression has been reached and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine have been restored within its internationally recognized state borders.
