The pool that is recognized the best in this region was getting prepared for hosting the international and world-class competitions.

However, the re-construction of Neptune sport facility was not complete due to the armed russian invasion of Ukraine.

Instead, the pool became a shelter for Mariupol residents. The citizens, including the elderly people and women with children used to hide in the ‘Neptune’ as Russian occupants launched massive attacls on the city. The water sport facility served as a shelter for civilians until the russian invaders cynically destroyed the building. Those inside it survived by pure miracle.

«After our victory, we will definitely restore the ‘Neptune’ and make it even brighter and more beautiful. We’ve got the necessary experience for that. And when the pool is rebuilt, we will rebuild our dear Mariupol, step by step”, reads the statement by Mariupol city council.
