The American president stressed that all discussions and international decisions about the country should be made only with her participation.

The telephone call was held on December 9 and lasted for an hour and a half. The White House made a statement following the telephone conversation between the two leaders.

It reads, “President Biden made clear that the United States and its allies and partners are committed to the principle of no decisions or discussions about Ukraine without Ukraine.”

The American President threatened with strong restrictive measures if Russia will continue military escalation in Ukraine.

“President Biden voiced the deep concerns of the United States and our European Allies about Russia’s aggressive actions towards Ukraine and made clear that the U.S. and our Allies would respond with strong economic and other measures in the event of a further military intervention,” said the statement.

Both presidents of the United States and Ukraine called Russia to de-escalate tension and agreed that diplomacy is the best way of ensuring tangible progress on conflict resolution.

The statement goes on to say, “President Biden underscored the readiness of the United States to engage in support of confidence-building measures to advance the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, in support of the Normandy Format.”

The American President has reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During a briefing at the White House, press secretary Jen Psaki denied allegations that the American administration was pressuring Ukraine to make Kyiv concede to yield the occupied areas of Donbas to pro-Russian separatists.

She said that during the call Joe Biden gave President Zelenskyy a readout of his phone conversation with President Putin. The American President underscored the United States’ support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The official Kyiv fully confirmed the readout of President Biden’s call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine that had been made public in the United States.

Thus, Andriy Yermak, the chief of the presidential office, said that the conversation was constructive and sincere. The American president shared with Zelenskyy the topics of his conversation with President Putin regarding the concentration of Russian troops at the border with Ukraine and the inadmissibility of Russia’s influence on the decision of Ukraine to join NATO.

During the call, the head of the White House underscored the following points:

- the United States and its European partners and allies are ready to impose unprecedented sanctions on Russia in the event of its invasion of Ukraine;

- to join NATO is the decision of the Ukrainian people and NATO member-countries;

- no discussions or decisions about Ukraine are possible without Ukraine;

- the United States pledges to give Ukraine any assistance to enable her to defend herself at any time.

According to Andriy Yermak, the United States has decided to get involved in the process of the crisis settlement in Donbas. The United States’ participation in the process may be held at the same time with the Normandy Format activities.

Yermak also said that during the conversation Joe Biden told the President of Ukraine, “I have special feelings for your country. I love it very much, respect it and know it. And I believe in its success.”
